P: "Hey Jawah, Guess what? I told mommy I'm going to eat Bacon every day until I get to heaven. I'm so excited!"
Me: "Wow buddy, that is exciting." [forcing back tears]
P: "I know. Heaven's going to be awesome."
Me: "I'll be right back."
[cue running to the bathroom to have myself a cry]
That kind of bravery and faith seems unreachable to me sometimes. I think I came a step closer today in understanding what Jesus meant by the importance of becoming like children in our faith. Oh, the lessons that have come from the mouth of that 4-year old lil dude.

...Reason #12 why I'm a pediatric nurse...

4-year old dude: "Hey Jawah, my dad has a shot gun. Cool huh?"
Me: "That's awesome. Guess what? I have a shot gun too... My dad gave it to me."
4 year old dude (with great enthusiasm): "You've shot a gun before?!?!?!?"
Me: "Yeah buddy, I have."
4-year old dude: "Jawah, you are the coolest nurse in the whole hospital!"
Gotta love those little dudes.

Reason #11 why being a pediatric nurse is awesome.

Sometimes a little saggy-diapered boy will come up, look at you with his big chocolate brown eyes and say, "I want to snuggle you."
So you pick him up and put him in your lap while you're charting.
Somehow you feel like he's lovin' on you more than you're lovin' on him.
And it makes you realize that the bad day you've just had is all worth it.

Reason #10 why being a pediatric nursing is awesome
On a rare occasion, you actually have enough time to sit down on the floor and play trains with your 4-year old patient. And it's pretty much the cutest thing ever to see him feeling good enough to crawl around and make train noises and laugh himself silly.
Hooray for feeling like a kid again!

reason #6 why being a pediatric nurse is awesome... pink mohawks!

Okay, so maybe you don't consider pink mohawks to be all that great...
I can pretty much guarantee that if you'd seen my 2 year old patient rockin her pink mohawk, it would change your mind completely. It may have been the cutest thing I've ever seen to watch that sweet little girl waddle up and down the halls saying, "I a punk rocker." 10 points to her mom and dad for celebrating what little hair she has started to grow back after transplant!

reason #5 why being a pediatric nurse is awesome
sometimes you go into the play room and find your patient making you into a character on the wii. and then they proceed to pummel your little wii behind on every stinkin' game. and they laugh hysterically while they're doing it. and so do you.
